If you’re not outside enjoying the sunshine, you might as well join in the festivities during the midsummer fire festival. There are plenty of things to keep you occupied, with achievements and what not.
One of them is to challenge Lord Ahune, the frost lord in Slave Pens. It is well worth the trip, because he will leave behind an ice chest with a couple of goodies once defeated. If the Formula: Enchant Weapon – Deathfrost isn’t your thing, maybe getting a fiery little companion would be more to your liking.
Being a feral druid you can easily solo him on both on normal and heroic dungeon difficulty. I believe you can do this 2 times a day, since the quest to summon him on normal will only be attainable once a day, and obviously you will be saved to the instance on heroic.
However a friend of mine was able to just run outside and reset the instance after defeating him on heroic. Luckily I got the pet on my first heroic attempt, but it seems like I was saved according to my calendar. So I have no idea what this is about, but I guess it’s worth a try to find out if that’s possible.
Lord Ahune is summoned by interacting with the huge stone in the second room in Slave pens. You should also clear the area before attempting to do this. There are two phases to this fight, and the first phase is all about moving around avoiding the spikes that appear at your feet while basically swiping and damaging the spawns that are coming for you. As soon as Ahune submerges you should finish off the adds, and run straight for the the frozen core and start dishing out damage. Shifting to cat form worked well for this. If you can repeat this process three or four times you should be able to pull this off. It’s all about how long you can survive really. Good luck with getting your little scorchling pet :).

Hey that's a great post. I was wondering if my Beast Master Hunter or Prot Pally can solo this guy. What do you think? The problem is that as a solo player I've never done Slave Pens and I have no idea where the dungeon is located and how to get to the boss.

Slave pens is located within coilfang reservoir (You can see it on the map of Zangarmarsh). Just swim to the location on the map, dive down and swim through the pipe. As you resurface you should take the far left wing. When you enter the instance there’s an npc standing around with a quest leading to Ahune. Just keep going forward until you see the big stone.
